国内旅行
旅行大好きです。バスツアーも好き。ヒマさえあれば旅行しています。全国通訳案内士です。インバウンドの観光客が楽しめる旅行先を開拓するのも趣味です。４７都道府県は行ったので、次はいろんな島を訪れたいです。
海外旅行

英語でいろいろな国の人と話すのが好きです。韓国語も少しだけ話せます。英語力を維持するために、オンライン英会話を10年くらいやっています。

洋楽も邦楽も好きです。楽器はトライしても全部挫折。カラオケは好きです。作詞もします。SunoAIで楽曲を作ってこのnoteにアップしています。現在三線を練習中。沖縄に三線留学したいです。
ワイン・日本酒
お酒には強くありません。高級酒には詳しくありませんが、赤ワインが好きです。ブドウの種類はちょっとわかります。ジンファンデルが好きです。日本酒はすっきり系の辛口が好きです。あまり飲めないので厳選して飲んでます。
仕事に関して
英語や英語の教授法を教えるのを生業としています。英語は言語活動を通じて教えることを方針としています。もちろん文法等のルールもしっかり教えるのですが、ルールを理解するだけでは、言語を使いこなせるようにはならないので、４技能すべてにおいて、一方的に講義するのではなく、受講者が能動的に英語を使うよう指導しています。また、タイパを最重視し、教師や研究者だけが知っていればよいような、細かな情報やうんちくは、極力省くように心がけています。受講者の皆さんの目標は「英語が使えるようになること」なので、そのために必要な最小限のものを教え、タイパを高めています。英語を指導する際には、音声を重視しています。英語のリアルな音声にたくさん触れ、その音を目指して口を動かすことを奨励しています。また、間違いを恐れずに発話し、その間違いを修正していくことにより会話力は向上すると考えています。生成AIを活用した学習法も研究し、学習者とシェアしています。
東進ハイスクール・ビジネススクールでの仕事
２２才で大学を卒業してから、３５年以上、講師を務めています。講師を務めながら、設立した自らの株式会社を通じて、東進の様々なシステムの開発に参画しました。中学生・高校生には、入試の問題にとらわれすぎず、将来も役に立つ英語を教えることを旨としています。社会人指導においては、マークシートのテストの指導に偏らないように、スピーキングを常に取り入れた指導をしています。特にやさしい英語を使って、すぐに仕事で使えるプレゼン力やスピーチ力を身につける指導をしています。
設立した財団法人を通じての仕事
公益的な仕事を引き受けるための一般財団法人「実用英語推進機構」を設立しました。仲間の先生に協力していただき、１０年近く無事運営しています。文部科学省、東京都、英検、大学など、様々な機関と連携して、実用英語教育の普及に取り組んでいます。この団体は、最初は私からの寄付によって設立しました。適正な価格で、公益性の高い活動に絞って協力するようにしています。財団のメンバー７人は、現在は報酬を得ずに活動をしています。したがって、講演等を行う団体が、その講演自体で収益を上げるための活動や斡旋業者が仲介するものには、本財団では協力しておりません。
教育委員会や学校法人などの公的機関を通じて、英語の先生に対して、英語の教え方、生徒のモチベーションを維持する方法、生成AIの活用に関しての講演を多く行っています。このような研修事業は財団の存在目的であり、本業と日程がかぶらず、赤字にならない範囲で、極力お受けするように努めています。
執筆
これまで、１００冊以上の本を執筆・監修してきました。累計発行部数は５００万部を越え、アジア各国でも翻訳出版されました。現在は、検定教科書や学校副教材の作成に注力しています。なので、一般の書籍の執筆は原則休止しています（一部例外除く）。監修で参加することはあります。

Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1967, Tetsuya Yasukochi graduated from the Department of English Studies, Faculty of Foreign Studies, Sophia University. He actively promotes practical English education through lectures, media appearances, and collaborations with various educational institutions, businesses, and universities. Currently, he is working to expand the use of speaking tests and online English conversation programs while also training junior and senior high school teachers nationwide in speaking instruction.
His publications, mainly related to English education, have sold over 5 million copies, and he has contributed to the development of certified textbooks and school teaching materials. He has achieved perfect scores in all four skills of the TOEIC test and holds certifications such as Grade 1 of the Eiken Test, Special A of the United Nations English Test, and the National Tour Guide License.
Between his professional engagements in Japan, he enjoys traveling the world, making friends through business and volunteer activities.

I own a Honda Monkey 125 and Kawasaki W175, which are based in Isumi City. My touring hub is the Boso Peninsula.

I have been driving a Tesla Model 3 Long Range since 2023. I love EVs and autonomous driving technology.

I’m a super amateur magician and sometimes perform at weddings.

Although I don’t have a high alcohol tolerance, I enjoy red wine, particularly Zinfandel. As for sake, I prefer dry, crisp types and drink selectively.

I teach English and English teaching methodologies. My approach is to teach English through real language activities rather than just passive learning. While I do teach grammar rules, I believe that understanding rules alone is not enough to master a language.
I focus on all four skills and ensure that learners actively use English instead of just listening to lectures. Time efficiency (タイパ) is my top priority, so I minimize unnecessary details that only teachers and researchers would find useful. Instead, I focus on the essential knowledge needed for learners to use English effectively.
I emphasize listening and speaking, encouraging students to expose themselves to real English sounds and practice speaking. I also believe that making mistakes and learning from them is crucial for developing conversation skills. Additionally, I research and share AI-powered learning methods.
Teaching at Toshin High School & Business School
Since graduating at age 22, I have been a lecturer for over 35 years. While teaching, I also contributed to Toshin’s system development through my company.
For junior and senior high school students, I prioritize practical English over exam-focused English. For working professionals, I integrate speaking practice into all lessons, ensuring they acquire immediately usable presentation and speech skills with simple, effective English.
Foundation Work
I established the Practical English Promotion Foundation as a nonprofit foundation to support public-interest projects. With help from fellow educators, we have successfully operated it for nearly a decade.
We collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Eiken, universities, and other institutions to promote practical English education. I initially funded the foundation myself, ensuring affordable, high-impact activities. Our seven foundation members work voluntarily without pay.
We conduct lectures for education boards and schools, covering English teaching methods, student motivation strategies, and AI-based learning. Since this aligns with our mission, we accept requests whenever possible, as long as schedules and costs permit.

I have authored and supervised over 100 books, with over 5 million copies sold worldwide, including translations in Asian countries. Currently, I am focusing on writing textbooks and supplementary materials for schools, so I have paused general book writing (except for some exceptions).
